Exactly, one year
ago, the Garden City of Port Harcourt, Rivers State virtually stood still when
the indefatigable politician, Honourable Emeka Nwogu wedded his sweetheart,
Onyeka Ozuzu.
From the traditional ceremonies
to the wedding solemnization it was a colourful and top-notch affair, attended
by respected politicians and businessmen from in and around the state.
Recounting their wonderful love
story, the groom stated “I met Onyeka through a friend Sonia in 2009. One day,
I was scrolling through her phone and saw Onyeka’s picture and I said, “I like
to see that your friend”. So Sonia called her, we spoke briefly and then
exchanged numbers.
“After that first call, we spoke
on the phone for over a year and never saw each other until she came to Port
Harcourt for her compulsory National Youth Service Corps Scheme (NYSC)”
From that first meeting, the
attraction was mutual and the friendship soon developed into a serious affair.
The almighty proposal was filled with drama in all ramifications. It was a case
of sadness turning to joy for the lovebirds.
We gathered that the couple had
a major quarrel in the parlour of the lover boy on that fateful day in April
2012. The altercation was so severe that all through the night, he could not
sleep. It was then that it struck him that he truly loved this lady and that
she was his better half.
In his words “In a relationship,
knowing that you are not perfect is a good thing. She is someone that tolerates
and that is why marriage is for better, for worse. It was her attitude and forgiving
spirit that struck me and my mind was made up”
He walked up to her the very
next morning without much preamble and handed her a ring. Of course, in view of
what happened the night before, Onyeka was dumbfounded. For three minutes, she
was completely speechless.
The Romeo then broke the
silence. He asked his Juliet if she was not going to say anything. At that time
he never knew that she had been holding back tears. “So I pulled her close to
me, and held her and she just whispered “Yes, Yes over and over again” The
tears just began to flow. It was great moment for both of us.
The joyous occasion was sealed with
a very cultural traditional wedding and a year later with a church ceremony
that was fitting for such a vibrant duo. Later, their guests were hosted to a
lavish reception that was a great finale to a fun-filled occasion.
