THE GLAMOROUS WEDDING OF OLAYINKA AFOLABI AND ABISOLA OMISADE IN OYO AND LAGOS STATES, NIGERIA

When two people are truly in love, it is usually at their wedding that you know; the way they share jokes, laugh and even coo into each other’s ears in the heat of this special occasion.

This was exactly what was witnessed when dashing Olayinka Afolabi, son of the famous Group Executive Chairman of SIFAX, Dr Taiwo Afolabi wedded the beautiful Abisola Omisade.
The lovely couple’s journey to matrimony began with a colourful and very cultural traditional wedding/ engament which unfolded at Jogor Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State, South West Nigeria.

Proceedings followed the tenets of Yoruba marriage rites which always witnesses speeches, dancing, singing and a general air of jollity.
First to arrive the elaborately decorated hall was the groom’s parents and extended family members led by his dad, amiable businessman, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi. They did not just stroll into the venue, but amidst the sound of percusive drums, chants and singing, they danced excitedly into the arena and after greeting their inlaws, the Omisade family, they made their way to their seats.

The traditional comperes known as Alaga Iduro and Alaga Ijoko, then took over, showering the families and their children with prayers.

It was the groom and his retinue of friends that appeared first, as it is the custom. Wearing a bright smile that matched his flowing Agbada, he swayed to lovely music that heralded his entrance and danced to where the Omisade family gathered.

There, as directed by the comperes, he and his friends prostrated, as a sign of obeisance to his in-laws. This expression of humility was applauded by all-and soon after wards he was showered with prayers by his in-laws. His proud parents and elders of his own family also showered him with prayers before he made his way to a special sitting area reserved for he and his wife.
The engagement letter was read and accepted by the familes, and the whole atmosphere was convivial as guests were all having a good time.
After a while, there was a din at the entrance and when everyone looked in that direction to see what was amiss, they realised that it was the adorable bride who was stepping into the arena in style.

Her first port of call was to her parents. There, she knelt before them and they prayed for her. The bride and her mother fought back tears as this was going on. It was a very emotional moment.
She then went to greet all the other elders of the family before moving over to her new family, her in-laws. They received her with open arms and also showered her with prayers.

The Chairman of the occasion was none other than the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi who urged the couple to be pateint with each other and then gave them royal blessings.
As expected, the ceremony was attended by some prominent Nigerians including Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, Olowu of Owu , Oba Saheed Elegushi, Elegushi of Ikateland, Mr Tunde Ayeni and Senator Gbenga Obadara.
