The town of Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, literally stood still when Nigeria’s high and mighty came for the grand funeral of Deaconess Comfort Melaye nee Kolawole Ologun.
Though the Melaye family was downcast at the news of the demise of their matriarch on May 2nd, 2019 at the age of 70, they were glad that having served meritoriously in the vineyard of the Lord, she was going to rest in heaven.
The three-day burial obsequies began with a well-attended service of songs. The following day was for the wake keep which was a solemn affair that had a session of hymns and prayers. The venue was the home of the widower, Elder Jonah Melaye in Iluafon Quarters. The Ministers that coordinated the proceedings were from The Apostolic Church.
In the course of the event, time was allocated for tributes and many speakers spoke glowingly of the late Deaconess. She was described as faithful, hardworking, tough, resilient and passionate about God. Throughout the ceremony, one of her sons, Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye was very busy directing affairs and ensuring that everything was in order.
The next day, the remains of the revered Deaconess was laid in-state. This was after the whole community had engulfed in sadness as her casket was taken round the town by gaily dressed pall bearers. Pipers, drummers and singers led the gripping procession.
