THE GLAMOROUS WEDDING OF UCHECHUKWU IWUAJOKU AND FUNMILAYO ABODERIN IN LAGOS

It was simply classy, glamorous and certainly superlative. Yes, there was nothing but the best on display at the upscale wedding of Olufunmilayo Rabiat Aboderin and Uchechukwu Ajibola Iwuajoku.
When news broke that the silverspoon kids who both schooled in the United Kingdom were an item, everyone knew that their wedding will be mega because they are both from two prominent and influential Nigerian families.
The beautiful bride’s father, Dolapo is from the prominent Aboderin Family of Ibadan Oyo State. He is a connected businessman. Her mother, Mrs. Lolade Aboderin apart from being the daughter of late businessman, Chief Abolade Abimbola is a top purveyor of diamonds and jewelry, her brand Olola Luxury is well known among the rich and famous.
On his part, the dashing groom is the son of foremost businessman and silent billionaire, Mr Sam Iwuajoku while his mother is Yeye Omobolanle Folakemi Oduntan, who interestingly is a diamond merchant.
The wonderful couple knew deep into the relationship that they had a future together as one body and one soul,, little wonder they chose #TheFUCHure as hashtag throughout their celebration of love.
It was as expected the hottest wedding in town that weekend as Nigeria’s rich and famous turned out for this occasion, virtually everybody who was somebody in Nigeria’s business and political circles was there.
The wedding ceremonies took place at the famous Harbour Point Victoria Island, Lagos. The first was the engagement where the Yoruba culture of the bride and the Igbo tradition of the groom mixed. It was a very convivial occasion that was rounded off with a pulsating performance by the Juju King, King Sunny Ade.
Pastor Wale Adefarasin’s Guiding Light Assembly, Ikoyi, Lagos was the venue for their solemnization and he was there to personally join Funmi and Uche as man and wife.
He admonished them before they said “I do” and exchanged rings, to communicate regularly, be each other’s best friend and never leave God out of their affairs.
It was after they went to a part of the church to sign the marriage register accompanied by their parents that the couple was formally introduced to the congregation with so much fanfare. They were received with a wonderful applause.
Throughout the ceremony, it was noticeable that the pair was truly into each other and in love, they kept cooing into each other’s ears, exchanging glances and generally having fun.
It was after this this spiritual seal of approval and fortification that the couple, their families and friends headed to Habour Point again for the Wedding reception.
The venue had been creatively transformed by the inimitable Uche Majekodunmi of Newton & David, who was the event planner. Guests were pampered like royals. Choice drinks and gourmet dishes of various kinds flowed freely.
Otunba Bimbo Ogunbanjo, President, Nigeria Stock Exchange was the Chairman of the occasion and in his remarks he noted that he had known the fathers of the couple for over 30 years, and was elated to be the Chairman at the auspicious occasion. He went on to urge the couple to allow God guide them as they embark on the journey. He noted that the wedding was just an event but marriage was a journey and they needed the grace of God to navigate it successfully.
What could be described as the highest point of this wedding reception was not the cutting of the cake which was supervised by Princess Vicky Haastrup, it was what transpired during the dance session. It was very emotional.
The bride’s father decided to send her forth to her husband by belting a sonorous tune with his saxophone, Mr Dolapo Aboderin rocked with is daughter for minutes and the bond was so infectious. This father/daughter performance was matched and even surpassed by Uche and his mother, because when they took centre stage to dance, they shed loving tears. Oh !what a genuine expression of affection.
The great reception dovetailed into a  high octane after party. The couple who had changed to more comfortable outfits danced with their friends till very late.
Uche who has a first degree in Busness and  Economics with a Masters from Cranfield University School of Management is an Executive Director at Quits Aviation Services and Legend Hotel, while Funmi, a skin care expert who had her first degree at Durham University and Masters from London School of Economics runs her outfit, Orma Skincare.
